It Rained!!!!

Yep.. Early in the morning on Saturday morning, there was some bright lightening lighting up my whole bedroom waking me up, followed by a deep rumble of thunder and finally, the unmistakable sound of raindrops blowing against our window. It was such an awesome sound and even though we were woken up at 5am for it, we both loved it. We sat there watching the lightning for about an hour and a half before we went back to sleep.

When we finally got up on Saturday, we realized that Darrell had left his car windows down, so his whole drivers seat was soaked. We had a long relaxing day on Saturday. We watched the rest of the Avatar cartoon on Netflix, and Darrell made me beef stew for dinner. It sprinkled off and on all day on Saturday with the high only being like 90. Such a relief from the heat we have been having.

Today we also had rain and a somewhat relaxing day. In total we have gotten about 4″ of rain in the last two days. It was a nice cooling weekend. Unfortunately, we are expected to get hot later this week, but hey, the reprieve was nice. šŸ™‚

Just a random fun fact: I went and got chinese food for lunch last week and I ate my fortune cookie and guess what my fortune said:

“From the floors of the ocean, the waves of the tide, a vacation awaits you far & wide.”

Makes ya think we might end up going on that cruise huh?

Hey All!

So.. Darrell and I have been really busy since the last post. We flew to California for his Grammy’s 80th birthday. We had a blast! So much family and so little time. We wandered around the Pismo Beach area a lot. Then Darrell flew home and I stayed and visited with my family. I stayed in California for a couple weeks.

I drove home with my family as we were doing a long trip to visit some more family in Wisconsin and Nebraska. Plus Darrell and I acquired a couple of cats from my parents. So all in all, I was gone for a whole month. That is a main reason for this not being updated.

When I finished vacationing, it was time to get ready for the school year to start back up. We’ve been busy at school with lots of field trips and everything else going on. They gave me an actual route this year since we don’t have enough drivers. It’s kind of nice, but it’s a little monotonous. Oh well.. At least I don’t have to worry which route I’ll be on every day :).

That’s about all we have really been up to in the last couple months. Work, work, work. Plus we are still getting things organized in the house. We are truly loving the farmers market.. We just found out that it continues through most of the year, not just during the summer. That is massively exiting for us. We have been really enjoying the different produce. Especially the Orange Watermelon. Way better than red. šŸ˜›

Just last weekend, I had a 3-day weekend (Yeah for Columbus Day), so we traveled over to Tyler, TX to visit a friend who has an internship over there. We had a blast and enjoyed our long weekend without worrying about work.

Well.. .Gotta run to get some more school work done.. Been procrastinating enough already. šŸ˜› Hope y’all have a great day!

June 2010

Howdy!

So June is upon us. We had a great anniversary. We stayed inside, relaxed, played video games & just enjoyed our new house.

We have been keeping very busy in the new house. We have finally finished unpacking all of our stuff, but we are still working on the little things. Like curtains, hardware for the bathrooms, and where some things are going to ultimately go.

The big thing we have been working on this month has been the backyard. Since we had basically neglected it for like two months, the weeds finally hit thigh high or higher, the sunflowers bloomed, and our backyard looked like a huge meadow. Since our ac unit is in the backyard, we have to keep the weeds trimmed around it, so we decided to just tackle it all. No weed whacker since we donā€™t have the funds and Darrell also wants to get one online since he canā€™t find one here to fit him. Nope.. I am cutting down all the weeds in the morning hours with garden shears. Ahh.. so much work!! Well.. Iā€™m the one that wants it done. I am cutting around the sunflowers so that there is still something pretty to look at out there. Iā€™m hoping that it will cut down on the crickets so that we can sleep with our bedroom windows open at night. Who knows!

We had a landscape company come by to see what we can do with the backyard. We kind of have an idea on what we would like to do, but no idea on if it would work in this area. They are going to draw up some plans and should let us know in the next month.

My little sister finally graduated from High School! Congrats Rachie! Now she just needs to figure out what she would like to do next. Darrell and I have offered to let her come out here and stay, but who knows.

I finally got tired of cutting the backyard with shears. The other day when Darrell was coming home for lunch, some kids were in the street stopping cars and passing out fliers for a lawn mowing service. We had about 1/3 of the backyard left to go, and it was all about 4 feet tall if not taller. So we called the kids up and had them come over and mow the backyard. I had them leave the two flowers (which I have now learned are black eyed susans.. not sunflowers) that are right outside the kitchen window.

Thatā€™s all thatā€™s happened with us this month. Iā€™m gonna try to now do an update once a week instead of once a month. Weā€™ll see how that goes.

Hope yā€™all are doing good.

Ā Hey Yā€™all,

We have been keeping busy out here in lovely Texas. We have had three snowstorms since the last update. We got one on Christmas eve, one for New Years, and one for Valentines Day Weekend. We are actually getting set to have another one starting on Tuesday. This has been the coldest winter that Texas has experienced since the late 1970ā€™s. They usually only get two snowstorms a year, and none of it sticks. Each snowstorm has dropped anywhere between 3-7ā€.We didnā€™t do much for the last couple of Holidays. We stayed home for Christmas and New years and just enjoyed spending time together. It was a little lonesome and we missed hanging out with friends and family, but it was nice not to have to worry about big money issues.

Starting in January, I began to work more at the school. I am now a substitute for the Kitchens and Janitors. I sub more for the kitchen than the janitor, but it gives me more hours which is nice. On the days that I sub for them, I usually work about an 11 hour day. Itā€™s nice for the paycheck, but it hurts the netflix subscription :).Ā

Darrell got moved upstairs into another department at the beginning of the new year. He is doing really good at his job. Spending lots of time at work and getting things changed around. Heā€™s doing so good that they gave him a BIG raise. Weā€™re both excited about that and heā€™s excited about getting things done.

We didnā€™t do much more than work in the Month of January. We bought ourselves a Wii game system and have been playing that, so we are spending a lot of weekend time on that. It has been fun playing games together that we could pause and go do something if needed. We have also been watching a lot of Food Network, so I have started trying different and new recipes. Itā€™s been fun. Darrell really likes it.Ā

We have had a very busy and roller coaster type of February. Darrell turned 30 and we took a trip to Dallas to go see an IMAX 3D showing of Avatar. We also went to the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch. It was a long day, and it didnā€™t help that the first theater we went to was sold out of tickets until 10:30 at night and we were there at 11:30 AM. We ended up going to the theater in Colleyville just north of Ft. Worth. We really liked that theater and would probably go there again. You were able to order actual food and have it brought to you in the theater. (By actual food, I mean more than popcorn and candy. Like burgers, huge things of Nachos, and stuff). You were also able to buy a beer and they would let you take the pint glass into the theater. Darrell really enjoyed that part.Ā

The weekend after his birthday, we were invited up to Whistler for his family vacation and to hang out for Opening weekend of the Olympics. We had a blast once we got there. The gettting there was another matter. We were suppose to fly out early on Friday, but we got the huge snowstorm that dropped 4ā€ here in Abilene, and 11ā€ in Dallas, so our flight from Abilene to Dallas was canceled. We spent lots of time on the phone with airlines figuring things out. We finally ended up driving to Dallas and flying from Dallas out. We had to leave early so that we would beat the cold front making all the melting snow ice. It took us over 4.5 hours to get to Dallas. We saw multiple cars that had spun out and were on the side of the road. But we made it. Our flight left late from Dallas, so we had a long layover in Phoenix, but I got to see Ruth. We finally made it to Whistler 25 hours after we left our apartment. We had a complete blast while we were there and are grateful for the opportunity to go.Ā

The trip back was a lot less of a hassle except for the massive security screening at the airport. We were thoroughly checked. They made us pull out all electronics (cellā€™s included), and then they checked everything in our bag by hand, made us put our hands in our pockets and swabbed them, checked our shoes, went through our coat pockets. I felt like it was what I would do to make sure I had everything when leaving for a trip. It took us almost 1.5 hours to get through security. From the time we checked in at the kiosk, to the time we got to the gates.Ā

Now that we are home and have a couple weeks off before things start up again, we are doing our spring cleaning. The weather has been nice in the 60ā€™s with howling wind. So we are getting things in the apartment clean. Will is coming out to visit in a couple weeks, and then Steve is going to be visiting for a week. Then we have a lot more things to do in the next couple months. Gonna be busy, but itā€™s good to be busy.Hope yā€™all are doing great and enjoying the wonders of life!
