We spent all weekend packing up the house. I am exhausted! We got a lot done, but we aren’t anywhere near done. We only have the office, living room and Kitchen pretty much left to pack. It is hard because we know we have 2 weeks left to pack, but we don’t want to wait until the last minute to do it. Of course I say “we” when I should probably say “I.” Darrell likes getting stuff done, but it isn’t quite as urgent to him as it is for me. I understand it. I think it is a little of that nesting starting to kick in. Either way we are both ready to be done packing, up there in a place and unpacked just waiting for Sprout’s arrival. We are thinking we probably won’t be at that point until middle of April at the earliest.

The cats are a little nervous about what is going on since there are boxes everywhere and things are slowly disappearing. We have been trying not to pack any of their stuff because (1) it will hopefully help them with the adjustment and (2) we are dropping them off at Lorna’s for a few weeks while we find a place in Seattle, so they will need their stuff there. We are trying to let them know they are still loved by giving them lots of attention and treats. We have to get them into a vet before we go so that will be a little difficult. They are constantly following me around and staring at me with those eyes. Those two weeks they are with Lorna might be harder on me than on them.

The frustrating part for me today is that we haven’t had a doctor’s appointment in 3 weeks. That is the longest we have gone this whole pregnancy without an appointment. I haven’t been too worried as I do feel Sprout kick on a daily basis, so I know that everything is ok. I spent all of last week anxious and so ready for today to be here. Today was suppose to be a Midwife appointment. I was excited to be able to go in and hear Sprouts heartbeat and know that the kicks I am feeling aren’t just a figment of my imagination. (Darrell has only felt them a couple of times, but not regularly) Well… Yesterday morning I got a text from the midwife saying that she was still in Arkansas waiting on her grandson’s delivery since he was late. I understand that there isn’t a clock that is perfect for timing when a baby will arrive. I’m just frustrated that I have to wait one more week putting us at 4 weeks from the last time we heard the heartbeat. I know that that is normal for many pregnant women who have to wait 4 weeks for their entire pregnancy until they hit the 3rd trimester, but I am not use to that. So, instead of one appointment each week from here until we leave, I have two next week (monday and wednesday) and then one on the Tuesday before we close.

So that is about all that is going on here at the moment. Packing and trying to figure out everything for our move. I really hope that the weather cooperates for us and we are able to do the drive Northwest instead of West and then North. Not that we don’t want to see family, but it will make it a shorter trip for us and the cats.

Back to organizing the office stuff for packing. Maybe we will get that done tonight or tomorrow.

Under Contract

So, it is paperwork official!

Last night we signed a contract on the house. We originally got the offer on Valentine’s Day, but we spent a bit of time going back and forth and both sides are happy with the numbers. 🙂

We are currently in option period where the buyer can back out, but they have their inspection set for tomorrow morning and then after the inspection, they will probably clear option allowing the financing paperwork to begin. Assuming they don’t find anything with the inspection they don’t like.

So, basically, as of right now, we are scheduled to close on the house on March 22 which is a measly 30 days away. Even though we mildly expected it knowing that our house is a lot better than the other houses in the area (kitchen and entry-way wise), we are still in shock over the quickness. We were only on the market for 35 days. I guess all the prep work Lorna and I did after Christmas helped.

We were going to travel through California to visit family on our way up to Seattle, but with having the cats with us and me being almost 30 weeks (I will actually be 29 weeks 3 days when we close which is where we were at when we lost Pixel), we have decided that if the weather cooperates, we will probably just straight shot it up to Idaho. We are going to leave the cats with Lorna while we find a place in Seattle. We are sad we won’t get to see a bunch of family, but we will make a road trip after baby is here to travel down the west coast to see family. We haven’t decided when, but it is in our plans.

So, anxiousness and awe are a big thing in our emotions right now as we start focusing on the next stage of our journey. I have a lot to do before March 22 and there isn’t much time to do it overall. I’m glad that we have our doctors appointments all scheduled before then though. It is easier than having to have them reschedule the days and then get all of our records.

*breathe* is a mantra I keep repeating to myself. These next 4 weeks will fly by.

We had a very busy weekend this weekend. We had been procrastinating on a couple ideas in our head and we finally had the money to just go ahead and do it. It probably didn’t help that we found some awesome deals so it cost us about half of what we thought it would end up costing us. Yeah!!!

So first project on Saturday was to install a cat door. We had been talking for awhile about moving the litterbox to the garage and installing a cat door so that they will have access to the garage. Plus it would allow us to use our Guest bathroom when people come to visit instead of them having to shower in our bathroom. Needless to say it was a little bit more of a feat than we thought it would be. Turns out Darrell didn’t have quite the right tools for it, so we ended up buying him another tool. But we got it installed in only a few hours. Now the big step is to get the cats to actually use it before we move the litterbox. So far they will only go through it if we have it taped open.

After we put in the cat door and spent some time trying to lure the cats through, it got to cold in the garage, so we came inside.

We have lived in our house for just over 2.5 years and we have only had sheets over our windows (college style). We had been talking about putting in curtains, but never before found curtains we both liked. We were at Lowe’s getting Darrell’s new tool for the cat door and we stopped to look at the curtains that we liked, but weren’t sold on quite yet because of the price. Well, some of the curtains that we liked happened to be on a massive sale for over 50% off. Yes!!! So we went ahead and bought them and Darrell installed our bedroom ones last night so we could see how dark it would keep our room in the morning since our room windows face East.

We were pretty pleased with the way they look. They are thermal blackout curtains. They still let a little bit of light in around the edges, but nowhere near as much as the sheets were letting in. This morning we decided that we really liked them, so when Darrell took a break from studying, he went ahead and put the rest of the curtains up. We put the same curtains in the Guest bedroom.

Then we put up the curtains that we got for more than 50% off. Those went in the Kitchen and the office because they blocked the glare, but they aren’t blackout curtains, so light still comes through.

Overall, we are very, very happy with the way that they turned out. It is always exciting to mark something off your list that has been there for over 2 years. It gives us some sense of adultness. 🙂

That’s pretty much all we have had time for this weekend. We did a lot of running around on Saturday, but we got a lot done and are pleased with our results thus far. (Just have to get those cats trained :P)

Tomorrow morning is our bi-weekly trip to Ft. Worth. We get to see Sprout again and are excited and hoping for some nice growth.

Garage Sale

We have finally gotten rid of a bunch of stuff. On Saturday we had a garage sale and while it was somewhat profitable, we have decided never to do that again. 🙂

This was what our garage looked like on Friday night:

It was quiet for long periods of time on Saturday and we had gotten up early, so Darrell spent a good portion of the day like this:

It was one of the hotter days of the summer. The forecast high was 106, but it only ended up being around 103. (only.. hahaha) Most of what didn’t sell at the garage sale, we put a post on free cycle for people to just come get it. We haven’t quite gotten rid of everything, but about 90% of it is gone and Darrell now has his garage back. Here is the after shot:

We still have some stuff to get rid of, but it is in a small(ish) pile that we need to clean up. We have to move some spare boxes into the attic and mail some stuff to friends, but it is almost completely empty. We have some empty containers to be moved to the attic and a little bit of organizing, but he has his garage back. Now he will have room to play with his father’s day gift. I gave him a router with some bits and he has been wanting to use it, but hasn’t had the room. Now he has the room. Maybe the first thing he will work on is the bookcase I broke. :/

Front Entrance

We have been working hard the last couple of weeks getting our front entrance set up and looking nice.

There are no really good before shots since it was a long slow process until we figured out exactly what we wanted to do. Proceed with obligatory before photos.

This is what it looked like in 2010 when we hadn’t done anything to it:

And this was when we finally realized what we wanted to do with it:

So we got started with Darrell digging out the dirt down about 4″. Then he laid the weed fabric down:

Then the fun part was ordering 2 yards of rock to be delivered. We ordered pea gravel and Mini Cobbles:

We started with the pea gravel for the bottom layer:

After we got the pea gravel in, we put the Mini Cobbles in:

When we finished with putting the first layer of Mini-Cobbles down, we called it a night since it had gotten dark and it was already 9 pm and we were both sore and tired. This is what things looked like when we called it a night:

The next day was the day we finished it all up. We put a second layer down and made sure it looked nice. We really like it:

So we are done with another project around the house. We have quite a few more planned. We shall see how far we get with all of them. 🙂
