….I just realized that I haven’t really posted much of what we have been up to since late October, except for baby stuff. It isn’t that we aren’t busy, we are just really busy with lots of little things and I do the update on baby so that I remember later. So this post is all about what we have been up to in the last two months. šŸ™‚

We spent Halloween at home. We put up some lights in the garage and just kind of hung out and passed out candy. There weren’t nearly as many trick-or-treaters as there was last year, but still, most of the candy we bought was passed out (We still have a small paper cup full of leftovers).

In early November, we went to the Zoo with Kelly & Liam and walked around having a blast. It was nice seeing all of the new exhibits they have put in lately since we don’t head over there all that often.

We also went with a fellow bagpiper and headed out to Big Spring for the St. Andrews Celebration. We mainly went to hear the pipe band that was playing since they were number 2 in their division in the world. It was pretty cool and we enjoyed listening to the music.

We also spent some time of November working on getting our cats accustomed to the cat door. The directions said it would probably take about a month or so, but we kind of forced them into it by closing them in the garage where the only way back into the house was through the door. Tough love. šŸ™‚ It took about a week and then Poleeko was fine with it, and then a few days later, Zedd got use to it. We played with them through the door each day and gave them treats when they went through it. It was definitely a chore, but so worth it in the end. Now we have the litterbox by the garage door and we can just open the big garage door to air it out. The cats don’t seem to mind it and they seem to enjoy the fact that they have a whole new room to play in whenever they want to.

Thanksgiving was a small event since it was just the two of us at home. We just made a meal and hung around in our pajamas all day. Nothing too exciting.

Our Christmas holidays started off fast and they just haven’t slowed down. I can’t believe that December is already almost over and I still have a super long list of things to do. *sigh*

We headed out to downtown Abilene with some friends and their kids and watched the Christmas parade (which is the longest parade this town has).

We had a dinner party at a friends house on my birthday, then we had a midwife appointment, had someone come level out our backyard, had a doctors appointment, my dad and uncle came into town for a few nights, we had Darrell’s company Christmas party, and we went to Ceder Hill State Park to go camping for the weekend for a Winter Solstice Celebration with the Metroplex Atheists. This was all the first half of the month. šŸ™‚

WS4As you can tell, the camping was full of mud and added a couple inches to our shoes everywhere we walked. It was a little rough that first night and the first morning.

The week after camping, Darrell’s mom came into town, another midwife appointment, an Apocalypse/fugly sweater party with our friends (the most people we have had in our house at one time), Poleeko goes missing for about 12 hours (actively looked for him for 4), started to organize and pack up the house, Christmas day, heater stops working on day after Christmas (18-25 degrees outside), and our house is a mess while we are packing and staging and I am beginning to think we might have to wait a week or so into the new year before it goes up on the market since we haven’t even gotten the last three items fixed in the house that we need to.

We even had Pixel with us. I bought this little ornament since my family custom is to buy an ornament every year for Christmas. I was hoping to start it with Pixel, but since he passed away, I felt that having a “Baby’s first” ornament wasn’t right. I went to Kohls and found this ornament and it just seemed like the best thing for me to get at the time. We put it up near the top of the tree and hopefully it will be a little memento for us every year when we bring out our ornaments.

And of course, there are the pictures of what our cats have been up to. šŸ™‚

There are still 4 more days of this year, so who knows what will happen in those 4 days. I am hoping to finish cleaning and staging the house and we might get close as Darrell has a 4 day weekend. We are going to be going over to a friends house for New Years Eve and we are taking our liquor so that hopefully a decent chunk of it will get drunk and we won’t have to take it with us. šŸ™‚ Then Lorna leaves early on the 1st and our Ultrasound is on the 2nd. So we still have a very busy week ahead of us. I have my fingers crossed we finish doing everything on time. Once I finish staging the house, I will post pictures.

As many of you have probably figured out by the lack of posts, we did get good news just over two weeks ago. Darrell wanted to wait as there are a lot of problems that can happen in the first trimester. We have done a lot of talking about it, and since we have shared a lot of things, we are sharing this with you. There is still a chance of a miscarriage, so no guarantees that we will not be posting more bad news.

We were going to wait until after the heartbeat to let you know, but as our appointment is at 3 on Thursday and then we are flying out to CA, we will not have a chance to update this. As of right now, all we know is that we have at least one bun in the oven. There is a small chance of twins with the HCG numbers we have been getting. We shall see on Thursday!

We are not posting on Facebook, so please don’t mention it on there. We are going to wait until after the first trimester. We also haven’t told some of our family, so we would appreciate a little bit more silence on the matter.

There won’t be posts for a few weeks probably as we are going to be in California with family until just after the first of the year, so hoping that everyone has a great Holiday Season!

2 weeks

2 weeks from now, Darrell and I will be hanging out at my parents house enjoying our vacation with our families. We are so excited and know that this is something that we need. Living so far away makes it hard to see family. We are lucky that we are able to afford to go home and visit for vacation. It will definitely be nice when we move back to within decent driving distance and the ability to go home for a long weekend.

Other than that, we set up the house a little bit for Christmas. We didn’t want to go all out as we are leaving and will probably take it down before we leave. Basically, we only put up the tree :). The cats love it! When we are asleep or not home they love to get into it and since it is a fake tree, they bend the branches, so we know they were in it. But when we are home, they pretend that they want nothing to do with it. Those devils! Our neighbor has said she will watch them while we are gone, and we are hoping they handle the length okay. They seemed fairly irritated at us after the trip to Phoenix when we were gone for 9 days. This time we are going to be gone for 13 days. We shall see how much they tear up the house while we are gone.

We got a little snowstorm on Sunday night/Monday morning. It ended up dropping about 1.5 inches. It has been a really cold week. I think that yesterday was the highest temperature we had all week at 52. We are coming out of the cold front and next week is suppose to get up to the upper 60’s. The best part of this cold front for me has been that the cats have been really cuddly and lovey. They are always curling up as close to me as they can and they want lots of attention.

I was having a good week thus far relaxing after coming home to a broken pizza stone that the cats knocked off of the top of the fridge (and it landed on Poleeko’s tail, but he is okay). We had unpacked and were just relaxing while getting ready for Lorna to come visit and me to head to Houston to visit de Mort. It wasn’t going to be relaxing for long. šŸ™

We had ordered a futon so that we would have the bed space in the extra room for when people come to visit and it was going to be delivered before Lorna arrived. I figured that giving the company 3 weeks was long enough to allow them to get stuff together and make a trip to Dallas to pick up the futon. I hadn’t heard anything so I called them on Tuesday and at first they were like “we can’t guarantee any specific delivery.” I was really irritated since before we ordered the sales guy said it would only take about 2 weeks to get. They finally told me that they would have it shipped instead and we should have it before Thursday night. So my fingers are crossed for that.

Then this morning, I drove my jeep to work and 1.5 hours later, when I was getting off the route, my coworkers asked me what was leaking under my jeep. Turns out I had a huge puddle the size of the hood under the car that had accumulated in the little amount of time I was gone. It was antifreeze, so I was thinking I might have to replace the radiator again. I headed straight over to the mechanic (as if you get there early, they usually have a little more time to fix things). I was hoping for a quick fix, but I am out of luck. Turns out that my water pump has a hole in it. Since you have to basically take apart half the engine to replace the water pump, it’s going to cost a pretty penny. :/ As long as he gets it fixed before I leave Friday morning so that Darrell and Lorna have a car to get around this weekend.

It’s Official! We are going to be in Southern California for Christmas!!! We bought our tickets last night. I am really excited since we haven’t spent a holiday with my family since 2008. Plus we will get some more time with our niece and get to meet our nephew who is due in less than 2 weeks. We are excited (or at least I am :P).

So that is what has been up in the last 3 days. There should be more coming in the next few weeks.

Hey Y’all,

Just wanted to post an update for anyone who might still be checking here. I have been trying to post something, but I couldn’t login. But now that I can,Ā  I will try to update here at least once a month. Here is what’s been going on:

We have been in Abilene for 6 months now. Time really flies when you have a countdown and keep busy. Our countdown is to the Boonville Beer Festival. It will probably be one of the few times we are in California. We have been keeping pretty busy though.

I finally got a job in late September. I am a school bus driver for Wylie ISD in south Abilene. Their Mascot is the Bulldogs, and their colors are purple and gold. I am only a substitute bus driver, so I am just filling in when a driver is out. But I get to ride the buses everyday. The pay isnā€™t the best, but it is a job. I get some field trips since this is a very sports centered state. The High School football team is currently in State Championships right now. The last game is on Saturday, so weā€™ll see how things go. Itā€™s been keeping me busy, but I really donā€™t like the mornings. To early.. šŸ™‚

Darrell has been busy at his job as well. He keeps being moved between different departments and the different departments are fighting over where he is suppose to go. They all want him with them. His boss has guaranteed him another raise in January, so things are definitely looking good for him.

Darrellā€™s eveningā€™s are still pretty full, but so are mine. We played softball with his company team, and we won only 1 of the 7 games we played (we missed the 8th game since we were in Belize). That was fun and kept us occupied. Still trying to find some other type of exercise since there arenā€™t many sidewalks, and itā€™s not really a safe area to ride the bike around in. Weā€™ll find something.

Yes I did mention that we were in Belize. Darrell and I headed to Belize on October 31 till November 7. We went to the little island of Caye Caulker. It was a total blast to hang out with friends and chill on an island. One of our friends got married there, so that was the main reason to go, but we tied it into a long vacation as well. The whole time there was fun, and not even Tropical Storm Ida ruined it. She made it so we didnā€™t do a lot of things that we would have liked to have done, but it was still a blast. (Lotā€™s of time spent in bars).

We also headed to Idaho for Thanksgiving. We spent the time with Darrellā€™s family in Sandpoint. It was so much fun. It was on the cold side, but we went prepared for snow, and there was only like 1/4ā€ of snow on one day. (If even that much). We had fun with everyone. We spent the flight back realizing that we only spent about 14 days of November in Texas.

The funny part about getting back to Texas, was that the day after we arrived back from Idaho, we got about 2ā€ of snow here in Abilene. It wasnā€™t icy, just a fluffy snow and it stuck everywhere but roadways. It made for a very cold day. It hasnā€™t really warmed up since we got back. The weather has been consistantly under 40 degrees. Just the other day, our high temperature happened at midnight, and our low was at 4:30 in the afternoon. Itā€™s been really icy lately, so we are being very careful when we go out. Our stairs for our apartment froze over, so we were having to really watch our step and ice-skate down the stairs. Fun, fun!!!!

The apartment complex is working on renovations, so a lot of things have been redone. They replaced a lot of the wood, the back patio railing is fixed (now that it is to cold to really spend time out there.), the front stairs are fixed, and the patio is repaved. It was funny since I fell asleep one day, and woke up to go to work that afternoon, and they had just finished paving the front patio, so I had to call into work and let them know that I wasnā€™t going to make it to work. What a ā€œdog ate my homeworkā€ kind of story. :D.

Well, itā€™s getting closer to the Christmas holidays, and it is very prevalent here. A good chunk of people had their Christmas decorations up around here a week before Thanksgiving. And boy are there a lot of decorations. Some are kind of overdone in my opinion. But to each their own. We have our small amount of stuff up. Just enough to make it feel like the holidays.

Darrellā€™s company has a huge Christmas party every year, so we are going to be going that next Friday. It is a big formal event, so I think it will be fun. It will be our first big party together here. Darrell went to a friends Halloween party on the friday before we left for Belize, but I had to work and drive the High school band to the football game in Graham. So I was gone until really early the next morning. We really miss having the dinner parties we use to and play games, chat, and hang out with glasses of wine and drinks. Ahhh. the good olā€™ days!!!

Hope that everyone is doing great.

Happy Holidays!
