We had a quiet low-key Easter at home. The day before, we took the boys outside and let them dye the eggs. Morgan loved putting the eggs in the different colors and Edward loved trying to figure out which color combos he could play with. It was a lot of fun and of course, a couple eggs got broken.

On Easter Morning, the boys both woke up around 6:30am which is completely unheard of in this household. hahaha. Edward just came and crawled into bed with Daddy and I. Morgan, however, quietly snuck downstairs to check things out. He came back upstairs with an egg he had found and asked me to open it. I let him eat the pack of peanuts that were in the egg while I finished waking up and then I took the boys downstairs to check out everything. The boys loved their Easter baskets and even more, they loved the egg hunt. Edward had eggs hidden in the living room and Morgan had eggs hidden in the playroom. After they found their dozen eggs, they got to open them all and eat what they wanted.

After Darrel woke up, I made some pancakes for breakfast. I made some bunny tails pancakes. All the boys liked them. Though I made them way too big, so we took the head and ears off of everyones and saved those for a later meal. In the afternoon, Morgan wanted us to hide the eggs for him to find about 4 times. Then later, we hid some outside for them to find. Morgan loved it and asked for a few days for the eggs to be hidden for him. Darrell had a couple friends from his UCSC college years come by to visit, so I made a couple batches of homemade pizza dough and put out a slew of toppings so we could all make personal pizzas. They were a big hit. We finished the day out with a homemade carrot cake and the boys got a glow-stick bath.

March 2019

March was a bit busier. Darrell took Edward with him to a local Hockey game. They both had a lot of fun. We got a lot of really nice weather with lots of sun, so we spent a lot of time outside. The boys spent a lot of time riding their bikes. We noticed that Edward was starting to get too big for his bike even after we took the training wheels off, so we found another bike for him on Craigslist. He is loving having the bigger bike so he has better braking control. We still need to get out and about for some family bike rides soon.

The ducks are still doing good. We are up to a full 4 eggs each day and sometimes they surprise us with a fifth egg or an extra large egg. Unfortunately, Smalls and Eager both got some infection in their foot. Smalls’ infection is fine and we have just done some bath soaks, but Eager’s infection is causing her to limp and not want to walk on it much. So Darrell has a vet appointment scheduled for her soon to get her looked at. They all have names now and we can actually tell them apart. We have Betty (whitest), Smalls (smallest), Bertha (biggest), and Eager (she tries to be the first for everything).

As we try to do every year, we headed down to the University of Washington to see all the cherry blossoms in full bloom. The boys love running through the grass and I love getting some good pictures. It was a busy packed day and the traffic was miserable. After we spent some time playing with the blossoms, we headed up to have a late lunch/early dinner at the Elliot Bay Brewery. It was a long day, but worth it.

The first two weeks of February were absolutely crazy. We woke up on Monday February 4th to a world of white. We had gotten about 8.5″ or so of snow. Over the next two weeks, we would end up with a total of almost 24″ of snow which is almost unheard of in Seattle. There were so many things shut down. Downside of living at the base of a hill – we were unable to move our car out of the driveway until that Thursday and then were pretty much stuck anyways as the rest of the street hadn’t been cleared. Upside of living at the base of a hill – the kids all had a blast on the hill and sledding with all the snow.

Our yard during those two weeks:

The ducks loved the first little bit of snow and kept running around trying to catch all the little flurries. Once the storm hit overnight while they were in their house, it took a little bit of coaxing to get them to come out of their pen. They seemed ok with all the snow except that they weren’t able to forage. They got super excited and came to peck around your feet if you were able to move some snow and they could see some green. It was pretty cool. They also laid their first large egg. It was huge compared to the normal eggs or even a chicken egg. When we cracked it, it was a double yolk which was cool for Darrell.

The boys (Darrell included) loved spending days outside in the snow. They were out playing in it every chance they could get. I was not quite as excited. I prefer to spend snow days cuddled under a blanket in front of a warm fire with a nice book. They had a ball though. Darrell kept shoveling snow around and kept a pretty good sledding track continuously going. As the snow melted and cars were able to drive in the street, they moved the track to the trail between the houses to the neighborhood park. It was pretty cool and the kiddos loved it. I spent a little bit of time outside with them and got some great photos.

Well, outside of the snowstorms that took over the first half of the month, it was a quick month. Because of the two weeks off of everything with the snow, Edward’s mid-winter break was cancelled and he had to go to school. He was bummed, but it was good to get back into routines. We still got to spend some time with friends. Since it was so cold, we did a lot of indoor fun. The boys loved it.

We spent some time with friends out and about after the main part of the snow was gone.

Darrell did a couple different things and each time took a different kid with him. So each kid got an afternoon with Mom and an afternoon with Dad. Mommy let them bake with her and they were both happy with the outcomes.
