Drat.

Well, there went some goals.. It’s been another two months! We are super busy like always, but I am getting stuff together to get posts for February, March and April up. We were busy, so there will be either multiple posts, or lots of pictures in a few posts. Anywhere from 5-10 posts I am guessing. 🙂

Darrell and I stayed mostly on top of working out, then we had Jenni’s wedding at the end of March and then the boys got sick, and yada yada so we haven’t actually worked out in almost two months. I am doing walks twice a week with my mom’s group, but with sick kiddos and trips, it has been about 3 weeks since I have done those (got one tomorrow though!). Overall, I lost 25 pounds in the first push, but the last month or so has been rough and put me back up about 5 pounds. Wrong direction Sharyn!!! C’est la vie. Gonna get back on it now that the weather is getting nicer and the boys hopefully won’t be as sick anymore. We shall see, we shall see.. The year is still young right?

October was a busy month for us. Not only did we have Morgan’s birthday, but there was other friends’ birthdays and of course, Halloween. The boys made out this year. Darrell’s work does a Trick-or-Treat at work where they decorate 3 floors and let the kids of employees come and wander and get candy. They got a bunch of candy and Edward was excited. Morgan just loved all the balloons and attention though he was a really cute little monkey. Edward went as Iron man again. Just before Halloween, we finally pulled out the pumpkins and got them carved. Edward was able to draw his own face and we helped him carve it. Morgan just loved gnawing on the chunks of pumpkin.

Our November was slammed with ups and downs. We did a lot of family stuff this month. We had a zoo trip and the first weekend brought snow. It was the earliest we had ever had snow. The boys loved it and Morgan was so mad when we had to bring him in because he was getting so cold.

Just before Thanksgiving, we got hit with more news. Morgan had fallen down and then bruises just started spreading all over his legs. We went in and found out that they felt he had low platelets, so we had to go over to Seattle Children’s Hospital to get some blood drawn. On our way to the hospital, we were rear ended at a stoplight. It was a bad day in general and things seemed fishy. I went ahead and filed with our insurance so they could figure it out. Unfortunately, they determined that it was going to cost more than the car was worth, so they totaled it. It became stressful to deal with, but after almost 6 weeks of back and forth, we finally got it all taken care of on our end. We have a salvage now, but at least the car is now paid off and all ours.

Morgan’s platelets ended up being really low. They want them to be around 150k, and Morgan’s were at 35k. So we had to do blood draws weekly until we saw what they were doing. After 4 weeks, his platelets came back up and we were back to good.

With Edward now in Preschool, he gets to do all sorts of different arts and crafts for the different holidays. These are the things he got to do for Thanksgiving. He also helped Mommy make the rolls for Thanksgiving.

July was a super crazy month for us! To kick off the month, we headed over to Idaho to visit the Ednie family. We try to head out that way once a year if we can. Edward has been reading a book (“Emmet’s Pig”) that Grammy had brought out once and she use to read it to Darrell when he was growing up. Because of that, Edward was super excited he got to see some pigs up close and even got to give them some weeds to nibble on! Darrell’s uncle Adam was even nice enough to let him wander out and visit with the cows. We went into town and watched the 4th of July parade and overall had a great visit. We stopped at the Wild Horse wind farm and the Columbia Gorge on our way back.

We decided to go ahead and hosted another student from Spain again. We hosted another girl, Sonia, from Valencia. It was a lot of fun and we did a bunch of traveling and seeing different things while she was here. Edward had a blast hanging out with her and was a bit sad that she left at the end of the month. We hit up Kerry Park overlooking Seattle, The Fremont Troll, Mukilteo Beach, and Dash Point State Park during the week between dropping her off and picking her up at the bus.

The first weekend she was here, we headed up to Mt. Vernon to go to the Skagit Valley Highland Games and since we were so close, we went ahead and headed over to spend some time at Deception Pass before it got to dark.

The next weekend, we headed out and did some blueberry picking. It was our first time doing this and it was a lot of fun. Hopefully we will continue doing it for as long as we live here.

Sunday after blueberry picking, we headed out again to meet with some friends and did the Wallace Falls Hike. It was a beautiful hike, but really hard on a 27 week pregnant lady. But I am happy to report that it might have taken almost 5 hours, but I made it to the lower falls and then back to the car!! Not sure when or if we will do that one again, but nice to say we did it at least once!

The following weekend, we headed down to Oregon and went to my family’s annual gathering at Pheasant Rock. Sonia wasn’t super sure as the drive to get there is longer than if you were to drive all the way across Spain. Then we forgot to make sure she knew how to use an airpad, so poor thing slept on the ground. But we made it through the weekend! We got to help paint the dining hall. Sonia got to do a lot of firsts: Camping, Road Trip, sitting in a Semi-truck, and sleeping in a car.

The last weekend in July my family made a trip up to Seattle and we had a full house. There were 9 people in our house for the whole weekend. It was insane but so much fun! We headed down to Enumclaw and the Highland Games there. Maybe we will get a chance to have a full house again sometime!

Power Outage

As many of you who are friends with us on Facebook know, there was a huge storm that swept through the Western Washington region on Saturday (August 29). We happened to be out and about at the Birth Center Picnic when the storm came through. Driving home, we saw many branches on the road and what should have only taken about 40 minutes, took us almost 2 hours to do because of all the limbs on the road and power out. We finally made it home and yes, we had no power either. Darrell hopped onto our utilities page to see how many people were out of power and when they thought we would have power back. According to our utility, due to the storm, they had 175,000 people without power. There were substations down, transmission lines down, and a lot of small residential lines. With the report Darrell saw, he figured we would be without for a few days. Our neighbors were pretty sure that we would have it back within 8 hours. We also walked around to see if there was any damage to our place since we live up against a greenland area. A tree just outside our dining area lost two branches, but with the way they fell, they only brushed against the house. If they would have fallen a completely different way, they might have ended up in Darrell’s office and we would be having a totally other blog post.

By the next morning, Darrell headed out to get ice for our fridge and freezers so that we could keep our food from spoiling. He had to head up into Everett for the closest store with ice. He came home and decided he needed some coffee only to remember that we only had coffee beans. So he did it rather old school with a mortar and pestle.

Other than that though, we were pretty set. We had just gotten a grill from Uncle Kenny in June when he moved, so we put it to some decent use during that time. We spent a good part of our Sunday out on our driveway with a bunch of neighbors (since there wasn’t much people could do inside their homes, we spent it outside) and we all brought some food to snack on and had a little dinneresque party. It was pretty nice.

Edward even enjoyed all of the quiet time and no lights. It took a couple days after the lights came back on before we could get him to take the headlamp off.

Overall, our power was out for 56 hours. We lost a few items, but not as bad as some others. It took almost a week before the utility company had every single customer back up. Makes me a little bit more appreciative of electricity.

Out and About

We keep pretty busy through a good portion of the month. We go on lots of walks, trips to the zoo, and plenty of other stuff. This month, we:

Headed out to the Brightwater Center for one of our weekly walks;

And Edward got his first HUGE lollipop;

and at the end of the month, we attended the annual Birth Center Picnic. It was nice getting to see the midwives who helped us deliver Edward. They loved seeing how big he has grown;

Edward even got his first every “face” painting. We weren’t sure about putting it on our face, so she was lovely enough to just put it on his arm. He of course didn’t want to leave it alone since it was balloons, so it was worn off before very long. C’est la vie…
