Rainy Days…

… are here again.

It is that time of year again! Rain and cold. We spent one of our rainy days inside playing with Window clings:

Then Edward just couldn’t help himself and put on his rain gear and headed out onto the back porch. He wasn’t super fond of the rain (“momma, it’s wet”), but he just spent time going back and forth. Put on his gear, go outside, feel the rain, come inside, take off gear, look outside and repeat.

For his birthday, his Great-Grandma Natalie got Edward a fingerprint art kit. Since we have had a bunch of luck with “messy” activities lately, Darrell brought it out and they played with it during Darrell’s free time. They both enjoyed playing with drawing animals with their fingerprints and using the stamps to decorate.

Halloween

We weren’t sure how Edward would handle Halloween. We tried to see if he would wear a costume and we had pretty much no luck with it at all. We finally got him to wear some of his normal clothes and called him “Daddy”. We decided to go ahead and head down to our old neighborhood. The park across the street always does a Halloween in the park where they have about 10 stations around the small path in the park for the kids to “trick-or-treat” around and then they have the playground and at the playground, they serve hot apple cider for everyone. It is a cute and fun event. We took Edward when he was almost 5 months old, but we didn’t dress him up or anything. At first, he wasn’t so sure and held tightly to Daddy’s hand. By the end though, he was happy to go up and take some candy on his own (even though he immediately ran right back to Daddy).

After we played at the park, we headed home. Our plans were to maybe hand out some candy but we don’t normally get that many trick-or-treaters. So, I stayed home to hand out candy and Darrell and Edward went out in the neighborhood. Darrell said that there were a lot more people doing it this year and Edward came home with a full bucket. He was super excited and jazzed! When I took him upstairs to get ready for bed, I asked him “So, do you like Halloween now?”. His response? “No, but I like candy!” Gotta love that boy!

Slime

With what a big thing fingerpainting was with Edward, I decided to go ahead and make some slime for him. Boy oh boy did he love that! It kept the toddler boy busy for almost 2 hours. Just pulling it around and feeling it in his hands and all over the place. I will probably make a bit more later once I get more ingredients.

When we first moved into this house, we had talked to the landlord about putting in a fence. Over time, we still talked, but didn’t really push to do much. We finally got the information together, passed it along to our landlord who amazingly funded it for us and then we got moving. Our quote was that it would take about 3 days to do all the work, but once the contractor (our neighbor) arrived to dig the post holes, it went faster than thought. It ended up only taking a single day and it looks fabulous! There are still a few more steps we need to do (i.e.: paint the fence and put toppers on the posts).

Darrell ended up making 4 trips to home depot to get all the supplies and one final trip to return the extra’s we didn’t end up needing.

So, we started by getting all the base material on Friday night. The kids were interested in what was going on:

Then first thing on Saturday, they got to work digging holes and putting the posts up:

Next up was the framing:

It looks great and we love being able to let Edward run around out there without having to worry about him going off the ledge or anything. We still have to clean up in the grass to make sure that there aren’t random blackberry thorns or anything else out there but we use the backyard so much more now!
