Halloween

We weren’t sure how Edward would handle Halloween. We tried to see if he would wear a costume and we had pretty much no luck with it at all. We finally got him to wear some of his normal clothes and called him “Daddy”. We decided to go ahead and head down to our old neighborhood. The park across the street always does a Halloween in the park where they have about 10 stations around the small path in the park for the kids to “trick-or-treat” around and then they have the playground and at the playground, they serve hot apple cider for everyone. It is a cute and fun event. We took Edward when he was almost 5 months old, but we didn’t dress him up or anything. At first, he wasn’t so sure and held tightly to Daddy’s hand. By the end though, he was happy to go up and take some candy on his own (even though he immediately ran right back to Daddy).

After we played at the park, we headed home. Our plans were to maybe hand out some candy but we don’t normally get that many trick-or-treaters. So, I stayed home to hand out candy and Darrell and Edward went out in the neighborhood. Darrell said that there were a lot more people doing it this year and Edward came home with a full bucket. He was super excited and jazzed! When I took him upstairs to get ready for bed, I asked him “So, do you like Halloween now?”. His response? “No, but I like candy!” Gotta love that boy!

For those who know Darrell, he commonly refers to Valentine’s Day as ‘Single Awareness Day.’ Therefore, very rarely do I ever get anything and I am ok with that. This year, he surprised me. On thursday night, he left for bagpipes like normal. He was late coming home, but that happens sometimes. This time, after I went to bed, he did some stuff downstairs and then came up and brought me a rose and a pound chocolate bar. He told me that was his gift but it was early since he wouldn’t get a chance to go out again before Saturday. When I woke up on Friday morning, I went downstairs and he had put little peanut butter cups around the house (where I could get them but not Edward) and then a trail leading to the rest of the bouquet of flowers. Very surprising for me. 🙂 So throughout the day on Friday, I would go to do something and I would find another peanut butter cup. (I’m still finding some on Saturday evening) Then he went ahead and surprised me even further by giving me another box of chocolates on Saturday that he had kept hidden in his bagpipe case. So I spent the last few days feeling very loved. 🙂 Then I felt mildly bad that I only got him a card. (Well, two.. one from me and one from Edward)

So we just spent the rest of today as a family and enjoyed our time together. We went for a hike at the Paradise Valley Conservation Area. We did about a 2.5 mile leisurely hike around and just wandered. It was our first time there and it was great. Edward had fun and enjoyed the fact that he was able to walk for a good portion of it. I love my family!

Santa 2014

Edward has his first visit with Santa this year! Last year we didn’t really do very much Christmas stuff since we spent a good portion of the month down in Southern California. This year, we went through the Lynnwood mall back at the beginning of November, and Darrell saw the Santa that was there for photos. He mentioned that it would be great to get a photo, so last week, we got Edward dressed up and took him down to see Santa. He is a little shy around strangers and doesn’t smile unless someone he knows is taking the photo (all of our photos show this), so Edward isn’t smiling, but we got a family photo.

Before Halloween, we went over to the Craven Farms Pumpkin Patch. We had a lot of fun and Edward seemed to enjoy it as well. It probably would have been better if we had gone before the wind/rain storm that happened the night before. We did the corn maze, pumpkin patch, and ate a bunch of Kettle Corn. We will probably go back next year and time it when it isn’t so wet and muddy.

Father’s Day

We had a very low-key father’s day. Darrell just wanted to stay home and get some stuff done.
