Of course our new house didn’t have a garden bed. It just had a really unfriendly rocky area in the front, so Darrell got permission to pull out some rocks and put in a garden bed. He was super happy because we knew we would have better luck growing stuff in Seattle weather as opposed to Texas weather.
Before photos:
- Chosen spot was full of rosemary overgrown with weeds.
- Bushes were way overgrown.
- Existing landscaping was unkempt.
During photos:
- Lorna helped Darrell clear the rocks.
- Digging up the edges to place the wood edges – 2×12’s.
- The slope required a small set of 2×6’s at the end.
- The foundation for a fence post made the outer edge challenging.
- Attaching the last board. We used metal L-brackets inside the bed.
- Frame complete!
- Uncle Kenny helped us with a truckload of soil and compost from Sky Nursery.
- We had a bit too much so we stored the extra in some tubs.
- Soil added and raked smooth.
- Most important crop planted!
After photo’s

- Great shot of the garden bed and hose area after I trimmed and fixed the landscaping.
- Basil!
- We used the leftover soil to help the shrubs.
- Most important crop planted!
